Well, so much for being scared and not knowing what to expect from the fans.
After reportedly taking the first snaps of the morning session with the first team offense — featuring Maurkice Pouncey and Flozell Adams on the right side of the line — Ben Roethlisberger was greeted by “huge cheers” on his way to the afternoon session according to Judy Battista of the New York Times — via Twitter — while Steel City Insider’s Jim Wexell reported — also via Twitter — that not a boo was heard.
Jeff Pearlman certainly isn’t going to like that.
I have to admit, I’m kind of surprised, at least a little bit, by the initial reaction. Not just because of the nature of the off-field allegations, but also because of the on-field impact (a lengthy suspension). You had to think there would be somebody out there with some anger. Like this guy, for example.
I imagine the rainbows and lollipops will end once he throws his first incomplete pass. Then again, that would happen even if he wasn’t suspended for four-to-six games.
