Pouncey: ‘I Did Not Accept $100K’; Calls It ‘Absolutely Ridiculous Claim’

On Monday, ESPN reported that University of Florida officials were investigating possible rules violations involving then-center Maurkice Pouncey, his eligibility and $100,000.

Today, via Gatorsports.com (by way of CBSSports.com), Pouncey, the Steelers 2010 first-round pick, emphatically responds:

“I did not accept $100,000, it is an absolutely ridiculous claim,” Maurkice Pouncey said in a statement sent exclusively to The Gainesville Sun on Wednesday morning through Pouncey’s Gainesville attorney. “I have completely cooperated with the investigation and answered any and all questions put to me.”

The outcome won’t have any bearing on Pouncey’s role with the Steelers but the Sun points out that “if the allegation is proven true, Pouncey could be ruled ineligible for the Sugar Bowl game and Florida might have to vacate the victory among other potential penalties.”

This is the part where I don’t mention how I’d be fine with that because I detest Florida football. Don’t want to upset the delicate sensibilities of Gators fans, so I won’t bring that up.
