Morning Links (and Daily Thread)…

A quick daily look at what’s happening around Steelers Nation. And consider this your open thread for discussing the days events and, well, anything else that comes to mind about the Black and Gold.

– In some AFC North news, the Baltimore Ravens played their first preseason game on Thursday night, and if ESPN’s coverage is any indication, the 2010 season isn’t even worth playing because they are going to walk away with the AFC and win the Super Bowl. Anybody watch the game and have any early thoughts on Pittsburgh’s top competition in the division?

– Jim Wexell takes a look at Stefan Logan and his quest to make the team. [Steel City Insider]

– And for your random YouTube of the day: Simply put, it’s one of the greatest plays ever by a Pittsburgh Steeler.

Perhaps I’m biased but the Ravens were wholly unimpressive last night. In fact, let me be the first to predict they go 6-10.

“…one of the greatest plays ever by a Pittsburgh Steeler”?

One of the greatest plays ever, by anyone for any team.

No Steeler fan should ever get tired of seeing this play.

Love the random Youtube clips. Helps get me started every day.

That play is simply amazing. I love the way the Steelers blocked for Harrison. I remember going absolutely crazy while that happened.

  • Smheart78

I go to this play probably once a month to keep me pumped up about the Steelers!

  • IsraelP

All of the above. Or below. Whatever.

  • Dean Keaton

I love that play too and was also going crazy while it happened. But I have to confess, I knew time had run out and I really didn’t think there was much possibility of him scoring on that play until he got to about the Cards’ 20-yd line. At that point I started thinking, “he just might do it!”

Man the chronology of the comments of here is confusing. I’m assumng the “like” tag bumps comments up?

  • ryan

Guh. Yeah, that seems to be the case. NOBODY ‘LIKE’ COMMENTS OR ELSE!

  • ryan

I was convinced the replay would say James was down at the one-inch line. Not that I actually thought that, just that the replay is such a crap shoot.

  • Gretz

One link I meant to include, but forgot, is the news that Andre Frazier was placed on Injured Reserve yesterday. So his season is over. Thaddeus Gibson and Jason Worilds … be ready.

  • Cols714

I also figured the refs would find a way to put the ball at the 1 inch line. In other news, I still can’t get over how much the media loves the Ravens this year. The Steelers beat them once last year and lost in OT with Dennis freaking Dixon at QB.

If the Ravens are this super awesome unbeatable super bowl team, then the Steelers at least have to be an awesome super bowl team. Right?

  • Dean Keaton

Doesn’t Frazier play ILB? If so, it might be Stevenson Sylvester who needs to be ready. I hope Worilds and Gibson are as well, of course (especially since I couldn’t resist buying my Worilds jersey already – GO HOKIES!)

  • SteelerBill

I was there live…I saw it and will never forget it….

As far as the Ravens……walk softly and carry a big stick…..let’s see what happens on the field….I’m glad they are talking up the Ravens, Jets, Bengals, etc…..good…good….talk more….louder, I can’t hear you…

  • Randy Steele

You’re breaking a cardinal rule among sports commentators who make predictions during the pre-season, Ryan. All teams have a good chance to go 9-7. Or better.

  • FW

    Sort by oldest.

  • FW

Dre’s always played OLB as far as I know.

I’d heard he was on IR, but immediately thought it might be part of Tomlin’s seeming modus operandi for bubble players: just seems like guys with minor injuries who might wind up being cut if not on IR get “hidden” for a year. I’m thinking of Stapleton, McHugh, Summers…

  • ryan

    Ha. How about that.

I was thinking about the Styx’ “Renegade” song that plays during the Steelers’ home games late in the action. But for no good reason, instead of “Renegade” on the stadium’s sound system, I imagined Tommy James and the Shondells, blasting away with “Mony Mony.” (Except for James, the Shondells were a Pittsburgh band, by the way.)

Question of the Day: If you could have “Renegade” replaced with another song, what would it be?

  • Cols714

Ty Warren is out for the season.
