Steelers vs. Broncos: Preseason Game 3 (and Daily Thread)

Well, it’s the third preseason game and that’s usually the one the starters play the most. We’re going to see some new faces out there with the first teams, including Maurkice Pouncey and Keenan Lewis, and perhaps even a little bit of Dennis Dixon. I don’t really care who does what, just so nobody gets hurt (and that includes Rashard Mendenhall!).

Consider this your game thread and daily thread, so go nuts, people…

I will be a little late seeing the game tonight, as I’m covering a baseball game, but I’m very eager to see how the young DB’s respond to getting a chance to play (more) against first-teamers. Also, we hopefully will see Flozell Adams show some signs of life.

Agreed, JJ..We need Adams to start playing up to a standard we can live with. There’s a lot riding on him being able to still play at a high level. Otherwise, we get the dreaded O-line shuffle. It’s really done a lot to help Dallas if you have watched any of their pre-season games…as in..yuck.

I think it would be nice to have some..what are they called again?..oh yes..interceptions by the defensive backs. Apparently that has many good effects on the possible outcome of a football game. Somebody grow some hands pls.

If we get some breaks and stay healthy, we can easily be in teh mix for a long playoff run this year. I like being the underdog and I think many of the Steelers do as well. Speak softly and carry a big LB’er.

Hey, Joe Burnett had one last week! The first pick for the CBs last year came in Week 17 (I think that’s right, anyway).

  • Gretz

James Harrison is a quarterback destroying machine. Even when he has the football.

    • http://www.steelerslounge.com/ ryan

He’s about to destroy Dixon for not throwing the ball out of the end zone.

  • Randy Steele

Perhaps some of the enthusiasm for Dennis Dixon has dampened a bit.

  • DrunkJohn

    THIS IS GOING POORLY.

  • Randy Steele

The only Steeler enjoying this game is Byron Leftwich.

  • Gretz

I’d play Dixon the rest of the game just so Leftwich doesn’t get hurt.

Get Randle El some work while your at it.

I’ll write about this later, but I’ll go ahead and predict much gnashing of teeth from Steelers faithful about the sudden precarious state of the QB position. I don’t think that’s true, but after Dixon’s effort in Denver, it’ll be the perception.

  • Gretz

Perhaps Tomlin told Dixon to take a dive.

Forget quarterback. My biggest concern right now is right tackle. Watching the fat on Flozell Adams’ thighs quiver and shake while he tries to anticipate the speed rush does not inspire confidence.

  • JJ Cooper

Can we safely say that any ground that Dennis Dixon lost with his outing, Byron Leftwich is trying to give back?

  • Randy Steele

Looking at Hartwig’s performance during that last sack I’m guessing he must be rooting for Dixon.

Another prediction: Dwyer is among the first cuts.

  • JJ Cooper

Don’t want to go overboard here, but that just made it hard to slide Crezdon Butler onto practice squad. He showed anticipation and burst.

  • Randy Steele

Sure did. Plus he actually caught the ball!

  • Randy Steele

Even though it’s only preseason, I can’t remember a game in which the Steelers looked so out of synch on both sides of the ball.

    MAKE CHAZ THE STARTER!

  • JJ Cooper

Said this on Twitter too, but how good could Antonio Brown be if he knew what routes to run?

  • JJ Cooper

It’s hard to ever know who screwed up on a botched route, but in this case when either Charlie Batch (essentially a QB coach hat this point) or a rookie WR blew it, I think we can safely point a finger at Emmanuel Sanders.

Well that was awful. Good thing it’s the preseason. At least the Dennis Dixon bandwagon will empty out.

Dwyer looked good on a couple of runs. That’s about it for positives. The kickoffs still sucked considering the Broncos kicker consistently reached the endzone.
