Morning Links (and Daily Thread)

A quick daily look at what’s happening around Steelers Nation. And consider this your open thread for discussing the days events and, well, anything else that comes to mind about the Black and Gold.’

– Short version today because I’m assuming everybody is out enjoying the third day of their three-day weekend.

– How bad is the Steelers offensive line? It’s so bad that Darren Woodson is making up new words to describe it. [PSAMP]

– And for your random YouTube of the day: the very best of Troy Polamalu from the 2008 season.

Instead of enjoying the holiday, I’ve been sick in bed. Yay. Catching up on reading, though. In ESPN the Mag, FO projects us at 10 wins. And their probability distribution skews upwards. Eyeballing the chart, they give us a roughly 70% chance of 9 wins or more. Yes, preseason projections aren’t meaningful, but I was surprised.

Per Steelers.com, here’s the Steelers’ practice squad: TE Eugene Bright, OG Dorian Brooks, S Da’Mon Cromartie-Smith, WR Tyler Grisham, OT Kyle Jolly, DT Steve McLendon, FB Frank Summers and DE Doug Worthington.

Kraig Urbik was claimed by no fewer than four teams. He ended up in Buffalo. Stephan Logan is now in Detroit. And Patrick Bailey is a Tennessee Titan.

One of this pre-season’s smaller mysteries: “What the heck happened to Sunny Harris?”

    • FW

Harris was borderline last year. You either step up or step out.

I think Nick Eason happened. I obviously have no true idea, but I do think that the Steelers wanted Harris to beat out Eason, but Eason played really well.

Here’s hoping Doug Worthington makes the jump next year. They’ve been searching for the next late round DE for quite a few years. One of these days someone’s going to make it.

Houshmazilly signs with the Ravens. Doesn’t concern me in the least.

He’s coming off a sports hernia and couldn’t make the Seahags squad?

      Yawn.

Does anyone think that an inside LB duo of Timmons and Sylvester isn’t that far off? In retrospect, the Foote signing seems like a luxury with the way Timmons and Sylvester played this preseason.

And no, none of the Ravens’ receivers scare me. Boldin will probably be injured by week 4, leaving the ancient Derrick Mason and the young but plays old Housh as the starters. No big deal.

I was thinking about the possibility of a Timmons-Sylvester pairing this morning, actually. It could be a possibility in the next year or two, I think.

What’s the over/under on Batch coming in? I’m going halftime.

I hate that Ben is out for the first four games. They would easily be 3-1 with a good chance at 4-0 considering his success against the jailbirds. Instead, this ATL game is basically a must-win game to have a shot at 2-2 without him.

      Dammit Ben!

A poll would be nice on the upcoming season, maybe an over/under of so many wins?

    Cols,

    A couple thoughts:

    a) possible Tomlin subterfuge, re: who really will start?

    b) and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Batch at some point, probably the series after Dixon’s second WTF turnover (again, I’m fine with Dixon starting, just trying to temper expectations).
