Morning Links (and Daily Thread)…

A quick daily look at what’s happening around Steelers Nation. And consider this your open thread for discussing the days events and, well, anything else that comes to mind about the Black and Gold.

– Crazy stat mentioned during the Monday night game: Since 1992 the Green Bay Packers have had just two starting quarterbacks … Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. That’s it. The Steelers have had that many quarterbacks in three weeks in 2010. Here’s my question … which is more impressive: The Green Bay Packers having just two quarterbacks since 1992, or the Pittsburgh Steelers having just three head coaches since 1969? Both are incredible in their own way.

– I like this mindset from Ryan Clark. Via Twitter: “Until we get another shutout we are not playing at a high enough level. My apologies Steeler Nation, we’re a work in progress.” [Ryan Clark on Twitter]

– And for your random YouTube of the day: Brett Keisel doing what he does … score touchdowns. And how awesome is Gus Johnson? That guy can make grass growing sound exciting.

What is with Steeler Nation always loving backup players? Almost every message board is filled with guys saying that Legursky should start even when Essex is back, even though Essex has been pretty good this year. I think this goes back to the draft. Whenever the Steelers take a guy ahead of where the so-called experts think he should be taken they immediately sour on him This is especially true if Jim Wexell (who I like and think he’s a fantastic writer) also doesn’t think the player should’ve been drafted where he was. Timmons, I think, is one of the first guys to beat this and only because he has been so dominating this year.

I’m also baffled by the media talking about what the Steelers are going to do in they are 4-0 when Ben comes back. Even PTI, a program I really like, talked about it and Wilpon thinks they shouldn’t start Ben vs Cleveland. Are these people crazy? Ben is a top 5 QB. Charlie Batch and Byron Leftwich are good backup QBs. But there is a reason that Jacksonville cut Leftwich and Tampa only let him start a few games. It’s because he’s not good enough to be a starter.

With an average defense, this team is 1-2 and everyone is begging for the Steelers to sign Trent Edwards.

It’s time for Wilpon to change the bong water.

Did anyone else start thinking about Harrison’s 100 yard return against the Cardinals when Keisel made this play? It was roughly in the same place on the field and involved some nice blocking and a nifty move or two by both Harrison and Keisel.

Also, while I’m very excited about the play of our defense, it occurred to me that each of the three QB’s we just beat were playing against Lebeau’s defense for the first time. I hope I’m wrong, but I think Flacco may have more success than Ryan/Young/Freeman this week given his experience against us. He’s 1-4 against us lifetime with a 62.0 QB rating, but had a 100.8 and 83.1 QB rating in the two games against us last year.

We rose from 5 to 1 in ESPN’s power rankings. Tampa Bay rose from 21 to 20. Ok, then.
