Morning Links (and Daily Thread)…

A quick daily look at what’s happening around Steelers Nation. And consider this your open thread for discussing the days events and, well, anything else that comes to mind about the Black and Gold.

– We all know the Ravens are the top rival, but what is it about them that drives you crazy? The players? The fact they used to be the Browns? Art Modell? Everything?

– Craig Wolfley has some thoughts… [Craig Wolfley's Blog]

– Are you ready for the worst thing you’ll read all day? Too bad. Because here it is. [Tribune-Review]

– I love the work Post Game Heroes does with their photo and video analysis, and here’s some screengrabs from Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers. [Post Game Heroes]

– And for your random YouTube of the day: Troy Polamalu sends the Steelers to Super Bowl XLIII.

Anyone who writes that the Steelers should start Charlie Batch over Big Ben should be immediately banned from having anything published ever again.

So freaking stupid. Thanks for making me read that!

What makes me hate the Ravens? Ray Lewis. The ESPN hype machine that has picked the Ravens to be sweet every year for the last 10 years. Joe Flacco.

Dumbest thing all day? How about all year! I thought about providing the literally hundreds of stats that would support Ben over Charlie, but this is so ridiculous that I’m not going to bother. BB is likely HOFer and Batch is a journeyman QB who had some lucky throws last week. If it was a character contest, then sure, let’s go with Batch. But it’s not. It’s about talent, and Ben has infinitely more than Batch.

Geez, for the sake of this week’s game, I hope it wasn’t just lucky throws last week for Charlie.

I can’t wait to go to this game. Could this be Ray-Ray’s last year? How sweet it would be to see him cry on the Heinz Field turf.

For whatever reason I have a good feeling about this game. Of course I thought Atlanta was going to beat us in week one.

Too bad I’m not going to be able to watch it.

Who at the Tribune Review wrote that Batch should start ahead of Big Ben? Is it the Trib’s Editorial Staff? Sports staff? I didn’t see a name on that page.

That’s such a dumb opinion it makes one question anything coming from that paper.

One just can’t see Troy’s TD against the Ravens enough. I love watching the fans celebrate in the stands…I remember my family going crazy at home when that happened.

2008 was awesome…I hope 2010 season ends the same way.

Quote of the day. Dale Lolley talking to Max Starks about explaining the rivarly to the new guys http://nflfromthesidelines.blogspot.com/2010/09/mid-week-thoughts.html:

I asked about Flozell Adams. He replied, “I don’t have to explain anything to Flozell. He hates everybody. We just tell him, ‘Flo, we don’t like these guys.’ He’s like, ‘Cool, I hate them too.’”

I like the fact the the Trib’s little piece of agitprop is written by the utterly fearless reporter…ok..should be here somewhere…errrrrrrr…yep..anonymous. Such courage under fire…

I hate Ray Ray in purple dancing like a fool. It just sums up the team for me. On the other hand, I like Ozzie and his drafting acumen. There are a few players I admire on that team but in general, if they are infected with the RayRay virus they automatically get an inflated view of themselves and the trash talk flows. Usually right before we kick their ass. Which is nice but also annoying. And that’s how they make me feel..unbalanced. NE I just hate unconditionally. They have replaced the Cowboys as objects of derision for me as the Boys are paper champions who just don’t have what it takes in the clutch. As long as NE has Brady and Belichick, they’ll be in the running.

I wonder what decibel level was reached when Troy caught that ball? Townsend’s INT against the Cowboys sounded pretty damn loud on my TV. The loudest sound I ever heard from a crowd of people was at this game which I attended. My ears were ringing for a week afterwards. The clip doesn’t do justice to the noise…it was ..frightening..lol

The only thing the Trib is good for outside the Sports coverage is lining birdcages.

That “opinion” was from the crackpot Trib editorial staff and has nothing to do with the generally good Sports reporting you’ll find there.
