Morning Links (and Daily Thread)…

A quick daily look at what’s happening around Steelers Nation. And consider this your open thread for discussing the days events and, well, anything else that comes to mind about the Black and Gold.

– Remember when Carson Palmer was considered an elite quarterback?

– Stefan Logan did something for Detroit on Sunday that he never did for the Steelers. [Me at FanHouse]

– Now that Ben is back, the quarterback controversy shifts to who the No. 2 quarterback will be. [Post-Gazette]

– Dale Lolley has some thoughts from around the NFL while the Steelers were off. [NFL From the Sidelines]

    Re Lolley’s post.
The Bengals certainly aren’t any good, even though they beat the Ravens. Which goes to show that anyone can lose to anyone else, including the Browns this week.

Good point Israel….but the Steelers don’t lose this week. The Ravens winning this week helped the Steelers and if you mix that with the loss to the Browns last year and our loss to to the Ravens last week – I expect a very motivated team. Plus we get that #7 guy back…

I fail to see how the Ravens winning this week helped the Steelers. They looked good, but Denver looked really bad. Tons of penalties negated good plays by the Broncos and of course Flacco had two of his customary “I’ll just throw it up and see if I can get a PI call or my receiver makes a great grab throws.”

There’s a pretty stark difference between our past and future schedules. The teams we’ve played so far are 14-5 (1-3 vs. us, 13-2 vs. the rest of their opponents).  That’s 11 games over .500.

By contrast, our 12 remaining opponents are 11 games under .500 at 23-34.  Of those future opponents, 5 teams are at least .500 and have a 15-7 record.  The other 7 are an awful 8-27.  The bottom feeders include BUF and CAR, both 0-5, and CLE (twice) who have played better but are still 1-4.

Also, some of the teams left who should have been toughest, NO and NE, look weaker than expected (CIN, too).

In terms of travel, we have a three game road trip starting at MIA and at NO, and after that we don’t leave the northeast for the rest of the regular season.

By comparison, BAL’s first 5 opponents are 10-13.  Their 11 remaining foes are 24-24. Of those, 4 are have sub .500 records totaling 3-16 and 7 are at least .500 at 21-8.  In other words, they should have more tough games left.

I feel like Baltimore keeps getting the other team’s worst games. The Jets, the Steelers and Broncos all played their worst games vs Baltimore. Of course it could just be that Baltimore is really good and forces those teams to eph up.

This has to be the most hilariously inappropriate take on the Favre scandal: In guessing how Favre might play tonight, Peter King writes, “two games from his past might approximate the stress he could feel tonight. I don’t include normal football stress, like a player would feel in a playoff game. I’m talking personal stress, from things other than football. And I’m thinking of the game he played in Oakland 24 hours after his father’s death…”

Equating the death of Favre’s father with sending pics of Favre’s junk. Interesting stretch.

Autofill: Peter King is a moron.

The acronym we used for this at Heels Sox and Steelers was PKIAM. Seems worthy of being recycled for the Lounge.

I’m waiting for a pass from Favre to Shiancoe and an announcer saying something like, “Those two guys really show how to let it all hang out.” And maybe Brett was just sick of the consistency of Google search results for Favre and dick.

    John S.,

This is how a jilted Peter King gets back at a lover who has wronged him. Hell hath no fury like a chubby sportswriter scorned.

Geez, I can’t believe that it’s been more than a week since the loss to the Ravens and I can’t get over it. I still can’t even talk about it. I took a stroll through the Strip District this past weekend and barely had the strength to buy some unlicensed sportswear (a $7 T-shirt).

Here’s hoping we turn the Browns into paste.
