2002 – Patriots game first, Oakland second.

  • StillerFan

Definitely made me review the 2007 game. I had forgotten about the long bomb on the first play of the drive to open the 2nd quarter, harsh.

I think it’s reasonable to hope that if the steelers can stop the deep stuff, we can hopefully stop the short stuff drives. It should be noted that the patriots marched down before the game was out of hand, leading 24-13, a pivotal drive of the game that sealed it.

Another interesting point of that game was that those two drives started from incredibly good field position. The first drive that put them up 7-3 started at the NE 48 after a 39 yard kickoff return. The drive that puts them up 31-13 starts at the 50 yard line after a 38 yard sepulveda punt. Sepulveda and the ST have both been a lot better this year than that one, here is to hoping.

That and the first drive were tough to watch:

    1st touchdown:
    # 1-10-NE 48 (5:39) 39-L.Maroney left guard to 50 for 2 yards (53-C.Haggans, 98-C.Hampton).
    # 2-8- (4:59) (Shotgun) 12-T.Brady pass short left to 33-K.Faulk to PIT 44 for 6 yards (92-J.Harrison).
    # 3-2-PIT 44 (4:18) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 12-T.Brady pass short right to 81-R.Moss to PIT 28 for 16 yards (24-I.Taylor).
    # 1-10-PIT 28 (3:42) (No Huddle) 39-L.Maroney up the middle to PIT 18 for 10 yards (53-C.Haggans, 27-An.Smith).
    # 1-10-PIT 18 (3:02) 12-T.Brady pass incomplete short left to 81-R.Moss.
    # 2-10-PIT 18 (3:00) (Shotgun) 12-T.Brady pass short left to 10-J.Gaffney to PIT 9 for 9 yards (26-D.Townsend, 20-B.McFadden).
    # 3-1-PIT 9 (2:32) NE 68-O’Callaghan eligible. 39-L.Maroney left guard to PIT 7 for 2 yards (26-D.Townsend).
    # 1-7-PIT 7 (1:51) 39-L.Maroney up the middle to PIT 4 for 3 yards (91-Aa.Smith, 27-An.Smith).
    # 2-4-PIT 4 (1:08) (Shotgun) 12-T.Brady pass short left to 81-R.Moss for 4 yards, TOUCHDOWN. NE 12-Brady 42nd TD pass of season, 4th best in NFL history. NE 81-Moss 18th TD reception, new career high. 2nd most in NFL

    3rd quarter drive:

    # 1-10- (8:24) (Shotgun) 12-T.Brady pass short right to 84-B.Watson to PIT 42 for 8 yards (23-T.Carter). FUMBLES (23-T.Carter), ball out of bounds at PIT 42.
    # 2-2-PIT 42 (8:02) (Shotgun) 12-T.Brady pass short right to 81-R.Moss ran ob at PIT 37 for 5 yards.
    # 1-10-PIT 37 (7:37) (Shotgun) 12-T.Brady pass short right to 10-J.Gaffney to PIT 24 for 13 yards (53-C.Haggans). NE 10-Gaffney now has 110 receiving yards in this game, carrer high and 2nd career 100-yard game
    # 1-10-PIT 24 (6:53) (Shotgun) 12-T.Brady pass incomplete short left to 81-R.Moss.
    # 2-10-PIT 24 (6:49) (Shotgun) 12-T.Brady scrambles up the middle to PIT 20 for 4 yards (99-B.Keisel).
    # 3-6-PIT 20 (6:04) (Shotgun) 12-T.Brady pass short right to 83-W.Welker to PIT 15 for 5 yards (23-T.Carter). NE 12-Brady now has 4,001 pass yards for the season, 2nd career NE 12-Brady 6th 300-yard game of season, 21st of his career.

    # 2-2-PIT 2 (3:56) (Shotgun) 12-T.Brady pass incomplete short right to 18-D.Stallworth.
    # 3-2-PIT 2 (3:52) (Shotgun) 12-T.Brady pass short left to 83-W.Welker for 2 yards, TOUCHDOWN.

Lets not discuss their next drive after that…

What would you think if Cowher ended up in Pittsburgh again?

Ha. Well, last year I was calling for Cowher to come back to Pittsburgh to coach special teams. I don’t even want to know what would have to happen to the Steelers’ for him to come back as head coach.
