Morning Links (and Daily Thread)…

A quick daily look at what’s happening around Steelers Nation. And consider this your open thread for discussing the days events and, well, anything else that comes to mind about the Black and Gold.

– As was mentioned during the Mike Tomlin Press Conference, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a new punter. [Steelers]

– If you haven’t already done so, be sure to check out Steelers Lounge Podcast #22. [Us]

– The latest Football Outsiders rankings are out, and the Steelers drop to No. 2, mostly because of what the Patriots did to the New York Jets on Monday night. The Patriots … man. That’s one team I don’t want to run into in the playoffs. The Jets, on the other hand… [Football Outsiders]

– And for your random YouTube of the day: Troy Polamalu doing what he does…

I think it may be in our best interests for the Pats to win that division. If the playoffs started today, it looks like the Pats would have to play Baltimore (as the 6 seed) before us. Based on last year, I’d prefer the Ravens get a chance to knock the Pats out or at least soften them up before we have to face them.

Just now coming back to earth after making the trip to Baltimore with my son. Nothing better than going down there and coming away with a big win. Especially after Ben was taunted with the stadium-wide chant of “no means no” for much of the game (re-watched some of the contest and didn’t notice that from the broadcast– NBC probably did its best to mute it). Otherwise the Ravens fans around us were decent except for one profane jerk who wanted to throw down after I had the audacity to explain why Ben’s escape-and-throwaway on the final scoring drive wasn’t intentional grounding (to their credit the neighboring fans we had befriended earlier had our backs), I think that was just frustration setting in as the Ravens were in the process of pissing away yet another big game.

From a cursory analysis we’re in good shape to hold onto the division and a bye if we finish up at 3-1 even with another division loss (god forbid). Ravens would have to run the table and get some help, as we also hold a nice advantage over them in the strength-of-victory tie-breaker…
