Roethlisberger, Sanders Great on 3rd and Impossible

Maybe it’s because they get plenty of practice, or maybe it’s Ben Roethlisberger’s ability to extend the play, but since Roethlisberger came back from his suspension, Pittsburgh is 10 for 40 on third and 11 or more. I worked a post up over at FanHouse that spells out just how good Pittsburgh is in seemingly impossible situations, but I wanted to add a little detail here.

So here’s every third and 11-plus the Steelers have faced this year. YTG stands for yards to go. And the key for the results is I=incompletion. S=sack and C=completion.

JJ: Your “over at FanHouse” link has a double http in it.

    Thanks countertorque. It’s fixed now.

I’m not sure I follow. Almost all the success say no. What does this mean? If they’re all no how is this any good?

    • Jjcooper

They are 10-for-46 overall (and 10-for-40 since Week 5 when Roethlisberger came back). That may look like a lot of nos, but converting 25 percent of third and 11+ is actually quite good.

Very interesting and worrisome for me as a Jets fan. Jets are famous for giving up the first down on 3rd and long. (I have no official stats but I watched all of every Jets game and it sure feels that way) Steelers are quite good at 3rd ad long. Adds up to a problem for the Jets.
