Morning Links (and Daily Thread)…

A quick daily look at what’s happening around Steelers Nation. And consider this your open thread for discussing the days events and, well, anything else that comes to mind about the Black and Gold.

– Well, believe it or not, but tomorrow is the big day, so let’s hear some predictions. Depending on which weather forecast you listen to, we can expect anywhere from some small amounts of snow to 2-3 inches. They put new sod down after the Winter Classic and all it’s done since then is snow, and now there’s a chance for snow during the game. Should be interesting.

– If you haven’t listened to it by now, check out a special edition of the Steelers Lounge Podcast with former Steeler Merril Hoge. [Us]

– Is it time to turn Ben and the Steelers offense loose with more no-huddle? My answer: In a word … yes. [Behind The Steel Curtain]

– Troy Polamalu won an award. No surprise. [Post-Gazette]

– And for your random YouTube of the day: Troy.

    27-10.

      I second that…27-10

On the surface it looks like these are two even teams, but the Steelers are better and rested. Easier win than most people are expecting.

One can not see that Troy touchdown enough. Show it again tomorrow.

The Bill Hillgrove broadcast is way better than the network. As always.

I am hoping the Steelers use the no huddle and a lot of 3 step drop slant passes and get off to an early 10 point lead to put added pressure on Flacco. Also the defense has an almost mistake free game.
It is time to get Flozell to a divisional Championship game.

This ESPN article is pretty good on how the Steelers-Ravens is a real rivalry, not some made up crap like the Jets-Patriots. Although I had to laugh at this line “…there are also seven Lombardi trophies between these two.”

    Steelers 24-16

    17-16 us. Nail-biter.

Just watched your clip of Troy’s interception, and once again I’m reminded of what a block of wood Phil Simms is as a football analyst. Slow, plodding, predictable–a lot like how he played as a QB.

Thought I’d pass along a little gem that Dale Lolley picked up form the football site ColdHardFootballFacts.com:

“…for those who think the Steelers’ offense line will be the weak link in this game, in the site’s Offensive Hog stats, which measure the effectiveness of a team’s offensive line, the Steelers were a respectable 14th in the league, their worst ranking in any category.

“Baltimore’s offensive line? It finished the season ranked 22nd.”

    So there’s that.

I really think this game goes one of two ways..

Steelers 27-10 if they establish the short passing game early and get the ball moving. That opens up the running game with Mendy. Sanders has some key 3rd down snags. Wallace draws a lot of coverage to himself that helps Heath and Hines find some elbow room.

Ravens 13-10 if we get into the traditional slug fest with them. I don’t think we want to go up against that D-line with our O-line in a real “run the ball down their throats” contest. Nor do I want Ben standing back there forvever waiting for something to come open if the running game stalls and he decides to take to the air.. He takes too many shots in this one and we win?…we might win the battle and lose the war.

I am hoping we see a different type of game than has traditionally been the case in these encounters. I really think the STeelers passing game is ready to take flight. Ben, and Co. are hitting their stride at just the right time. Hopefully the O-line continues is solid if unspectacular play.

If snow is a factor…..12-6 Steelers
If snow is not a factor 34-13 Steelers

    I’m nervous already!

Joe Theismann and Neon Deion picked the STeelers on NFLN.

Not sure if there should be great rejoicing in the land over that or not…lol
