Steelers Lounge Podcast #32: Jets-Steelers Preview — Franco Harris

Not sure many people thought it was possible in September, but the Steelers are in the AFC Championship game. At Heinz Field. And they won’t be facing the Colts or the Patriots, but the Jets.

Nope, didn’t see that coming. Of course, I don’t see a lot of things coming so maybe it’s not wholly unexpected.

Whatever, JJ, Adam and I spend nearly 45 minutes talking about it because, well, that’s what you people demand.

Gum-flapping starts below…

On the topic of need positions for the Steelers, I think they should trade up in the 1st round to take a LT getting above Indy being important. TB and Philly are good choices for trade partners. While I don’t like the idea of trading away our 1st and 2nd, trading our 1st, 3rd and 3rd next year and a 5th or 6th if they win the SB. Left tackle is a need to bring in a developmental young player to develop behind Max Starks as LTs who enter their 30′s often lose a step (Flozell) and become better choices at RT. I am very high on Tyron Smith of USC, if he falls to where the Steelers can get him. He would need to switch from RT to LT but who better than Flozell to help with this transition and we all know Flozell will have extra time in camp to work with the rookie. Besides that Smith need to put on some weight an extra muscle so he is a year or two from starting in the NFL, this works out fine because Starks is under contract until 2012. Thoughts?

I think it depends on what CBs are expected to be on the board where as well. I’d rather get a guard and corner who can start right away in rounds 1 and 2 than a left tackle. But in general, if you’re ever going to trade up in a draft, the Steelers are in a reasonable position to do so this season.

Holmes always does crap after he catches the ball. His first down signal irritated me even when he played for the Steelers.

      Agreed. See also: Antonio Brown.

I am a Jets fan and I agree with you. Unfortunately, all the Jets receivers seem to do that now.
