Hines Ward. You know him as the Steelers all-time leading receiver, a two-time Super Bowl champion, Super Bowl XL MVP, (arguably) a future Hall of Famer … and now? A cast member on Dancing With The Stars.
Yes, that’s right, everybody’s favorite smiling wide receiver will be the athlete representative (one of them, anyway) on season 12 of ABC’s show, joining a cast that includes Chris Jericho, Kendra Wilkinson (you know her as the annoying girl on The Girls Next Door that ended up marrying NFL wide receiver Hank Baskett), Ralph Macchio (the freakin’ Karate Kid), Sugar Ray Leonard, Kirstie Alley (seriously?) and a bunch of other people I’ve never heard of. Which is probably a good thing.
It’s sure to be … something.
I don’t watch the show, but I imagine if there’s a quick and easy way to boost your ratings and move the needle, even a little bit, it’s to simply throw a Pittsburgh Steeler into the mix. Then again, from what I understand the football players don’t generally do well on the show, probably because the target demographics don’t really overlap. It would be like the NFL hiring the Black Eyed Peas or Justin Timberlake to do a halftime sho… oh. Right.
Will it make me watch the show? No. But I’m sure there’s somebody out there that will check it out to see what sort of moves Hines has on the dance floor. Will you be one of them? Don’t be afraid to admit it. We don’t judge around here. And more importantly, does it bother you at all to see Hines as a part of the show? (That’s a no on my end. Couldn’t care less, honestly. But I’m sure the first time he drops a pass in 2011 there’s going to be somebody out there waiting to chime in about how he should have spent more time training instead of dancing during the offseason.)
