Hines Ward: Cast Member On Dancing With the Stars

Hines Ward. You know him as the Steelers all-time leading receiver, a two-time Super Bowl champion, Super Bowl XL MVP, (arguably) a future Hall of Famer … and now? A cast member on Dancing With The Stars.

Yes, that’s right, everybody’s favorite smiling wide receiver will be the athlete representative (one of them, anyway) on season 12 of ABC’s show, joining a cast that includes Chris Jericho, Kendra Wilkinson (you know her as the annoying girl on The Girls Next Door that ended up marrying NFL wide receiver Hank Baskett), Ralph Macchio (the freakin’ Karate Kid), Sugar Ray Leonard, Kirstie Alley (seriously?) and a bunch of other people I’ve never heard of. Which is probably a good thing.

It’s sure to be … something.

I don’t watch the show, but I imagine if there’s a quick and easy way to boost your ratings and move the needle, even a little bit, it’s to simply throw a Pittsburgh Steeler into the mix. Then again, from what I understand the football players don’t generally do well on the show, probably because the target demographics don’t really overlap. It would be like the NFL hiring the Black Eyed Peas or Justin Timberlake to do a halftime sho… oh. Right.

Will it make me watch the show? No. But I’m sure there’s somebody out there that will check it out to see what sort of moves Hines has on the dance floor. Will you be one of them? Don’t be afraid to admit it. We don’t judge around here. And more importantly, does it bother you at all to see Hines as a part of the show? (That’s a no on my end. Couldn’t care less, honestly. But I’m sure the first time he drops a pass in 2011 there’s going to be somebody out there waiting to chime in about how he should have spent more time training instead of dancing during the offseason.)

I don’t watch the show so I’m guessing that they won’t incorporate his on-field moves into the different dances. Although a tango which features his crack-back block could be interesting…

If your a true steeler fan..you support Hines…as he supporting US Steeler Nation every time he’s out there.

Apparently the opposite is true. Looking at Wikipedia (yeah, sue me), Emmitt Smith won the damned thing, and Jerry Rice, Jason Taylor and Warren Sapp have all finished as runners-up. As a fan vote it’s a popularity contest that NFL players have fared quite well with. As for Hines, to each his own…

Well I’ll be damned. I stand corrected. Thanks, Glenn.

no doubt other dancers will accuse him of being “dirty” after he wins the competition.

oh and no I don’t watch, I will not watch (maybe some youtube highlights if I’m bored) and I don’t care if he wants to dance in the off-season. Maybe he can get some new moves for endzone celebration dances.

PS should not allow this. No good can come from it. There is a list of athletes who have been injured while on the show.
