SL Discussion Thread for Week of April 4

This is your thread to talk about … well, whatever you want.

– The Pittsburgh Power dropped to 2-2 on Saturday night in a blowout loss to the Tulsa Talons. It was Tulsa’s first win of the season and Power quarterbacks (and local guys) Kevin McCabe and Anthony Morelli struggled mightily. After playing in front of 14,000 in the home opener, attendance has settled in around the 9,000 mark, which isn’t terrible. Honestly, it’s better than I expected at this point. I still think too many seats are overpriced, but supply and demand will eventually take care of that. Hopefully. [Post-Gazette]

– You might remember Darnell Stapleton as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers that ended up starting on the Steelers offensive line in Super Bowl XLIII. Maybe you were wondering what he’s up to these days. Turns out, he’s coaching women’s football. [New York Times]

– If you haven’t done so already, you should listen to Ryan and I spend 35 minutes talking about as much as we can possibly talk about with nothing to really talk about. [US! Steelers Lounge Podcast #41]

– I joined Twitter a couple of months ago and never really used it. I’m going to start using it now, at least more than I was, so you should follow me. I need more followers, and, frankly, people need more access to my opinions and thoughts. And while you’re at it, you should follow Steelers Lounge on Twitter. You should also like us on Facebook. – Taking a look at Troy Polamalu’s 2010 season. [Nick Pick, Cowher]

– And for your random YouTube: For whatever reason there’s been a sudden increase in the number of Dwight Stone videos on YouTube. This can only be a good thing.

The hands of stone guy has videos on the information super hwy?

What’s the word coming to? Poor Dwight…lol

I have been following the labour negotiations with zero interest. I can’t remember an offseason where I have been more disengaged from the NFL and the draft etc.

    • Bob Costas

I haven’t even been following the negotiations but I agree with your other sentiments. Thankfully there is still hockey. Now all I need is Crosby to show up and start scoring some goals.

      • ROb D

As a Montreal fan (waits for booing and threats to wind down) I hope Crosby comes back too.

I used to be a baseball fan (Pirates,,I was actually a PP fan before I became a Steeler fanatic) but that seems to have faded away along with childhood idols like Stargell, Clemente and Manny Sanguillen and Steve Blass.

I really think the NFL and the PA will stir up a hornet’s nest of anger if they go out and the season doesn’t start as scheduled. It’s already coloring my view of the offseason..why get all excited about the draft if there isn’t going to be a full season of football to follow? Big Ben’s offseason really took the edge of the season last year for me, much as I don’t like to admit it. Santonio as well..

Any year where a prominent player on your team becomes a character on South Park is usually a very bad more of that..please and thanks..a

Anyone else hear of Flacco’s discontent? He’s unhappy with his contract. This is music to my ears… I don’t believe the Ravens intend to find another QB, but this erosion of team solidarity in their locker room makes me happy. Link here:

I think Flacco is a good QB but I don’t think he’ll ever be a truly great one. Which is fine with me. WE don’t need Montana/Manning/Brady/ level player in Baltimore at ANY point in time.

There’s no way I’d give him the huge contract if I was the GM though. He’s just not clutch enough in the big situations. That could change with more experience but I have never been a big fan of his. I was holding my breath when Brees left SD for instance..That would have been a conference altering pickup for the Ravens and I was so glad it didn’t happen.

This just in: According to Ed Bouchette, Ben confesses all–yep, he’s getting married.

Goodell is in a prostate cancer PSA and they show NFL game scenes in the background. Almost all of the clips are. QBs and WRs getting hit hard, and some of them would have been borderline penalties last year (including Ryan Clark totally laying out the Giants’ Steve Smith and Juan landing with the full weight of his body on TJ Hosyourmama). Goodell’s motto could be: drawing attention to the violence of the game.

QUESTION OF THE DAY: Do you think that the free agency should begin before the draft, as it was previous to this year, or after the draft?
