We’re more than a week into training camp, there’s a new CBA, and everybody’s now eligible to practice. The problem, of course, is that injuries have plenty of guys hobbled, particularly those who could most use the reps.
Like, say, almost everyone on the offensive line, including rookie tackle Marcus Gilbert. But, as Laird so often reminded us during his tenure, “It is what it is.” And as Tomlin’s fond of saying, “We expect the next man to step up.” Which is how you get a line featuring Jonathan Scott at left tackle.
We start with that, and JJ refers back to his Monday post on the subject. While many of you may be worrying about Scott’s play at left tackle, JJ’s more worried about him getting hurt.
Other topics of interest: Is Joe Flacco anything more than mediocre? (A little background: I was on Baltimore radio’s 105.7 last week as part of my other gig with CBSSports.com and the question was put to me. Apparently, the natives are restless. I reminded them of Billick’s QB Reign of Terror.) Could the Steelers have every draft pick make the final 53 for the second straight year? And is Timmons more deserving of a new deal before Troy (we think so, you may not)?
Pontificatin’ starts promptly…
