Really, have there been any surprises this weekend during the play-off games?
I take that as a good omen.
Randy Steele
Also, I just wanted to note–to myself, I guess–that I miss the old crowd at Ryan’s original HSS site.
I used to stay home to watch the Steelers play just so I had access to my computer so I could chat with everyone who visited HSS during the game.
Oh, well…
Cols714
Matt Ryan is sort of the Joe Flacco of the NFC. Nobody is really sure if he is any good or not. Certainly his team has a lot of work to do to get better.
Randy, I agree. Even though I didn’t take part in too many game threads all that much, I miss that place too.
Rob D
Atlanta..beginning to think they are total frauds. I guess the Giants did a great job in coverage today (have to guess because Fox didn’t show any shots of the secondary in replays or indicate who was blanketing who. All I know is Matty Ice took one look and immediately looked for his checkdown or absorbed another sack/hurry. Their receivers are very good at getting 9 yds, when they need 10,,,7 when they need 8…etc. And then they leave the big RB on the sidelines so that the Giants have NO DOUBT that its the QB sneak! Brilliant.
Mike Smith has the look of a guy who knows he should be fired. But won’t be since Atlanta sucked before he got there. Regular season wonders or just going through the losses a youngish team needs to absorb before trimumphing? Not sure yet, just like I’m not sure how good they are in actuality. 2 pts kinda stops the conversation about anything..yuk
Anonymous
I enjoyed the final score of the Giants-Falcons game. Unusual scores always fun.
Anonymous
The Steelers have had the worst fumble luck this year. Every time they fumble, the other team recovers. Every time they force a fumble, the other team seems to recover.
Anonymous
Woodley already out of the game.
Anonymous
Hmm, I’m not sure Mendenhall is a top 10 back.
Anonymous
Heh. Redman is really using the spin moves today.
Anonymous
So, seems like the refs haven’t shown up today. They aren’t calling anything.
Anonymous
This is going to make me nervous. The Steelers are dominating so far, but have had to settle for 2 field goals.
Anonymous
I’m sure Harrison will get fined for that.
Anonymous
I don’t know if this is a good challenge.
DJAnyReason
How can that not be an incompletion or a fumble? How can that be anything but one or the other?
Anonymous
Well, I’ll take that. Incomplete pass.
Anonymous
So naturally Ike Taylor promptly gets beaten for a huge gain.
Sarah
TD. And Keis down.
Sarah
76 yards in 2 passes from a guy who can’t hit the broad side of a barn. Nice that he chooses this game to get a clue.
Anonymous
Followed by William Gay getting beaten for a TD. Sigh…
And Kiesel is hurt.
Anonymous
This is why settling for field goals sucks. It only takes a couple of big plays and now you’re behind.
DJAnyReason
Kiesel was being blatantly held on the first long pass, and I’m fairly certain on the TD the receiver’s hip landed out of bounds.
The refs in this game have been atrocious.
Randy Steele
Actually, the refs have been atrocious all weekend. Someday the NFL really has to take a good long hard look at its rule book and devise a game that can be officiated by human beings.
Anonymous
Now Johnson drops an easy pass.
Anonymous
That was nice. Big strike to Wallace.
Sarah
will it be over turned??
Anonymous
Naturally. Catch is overturned.
Anonymous
This game is starting to slip out of the Steelers grasp. Defense needs to step up here.
Randy Steele
You can’t criticize Gay on that pass completion. It was–amazingly enough–perfectly thrown.
Anonymous
And Ike Taylor gets beaten again.
Sarah
Well so much for the plan to make Tebow throw the ball
DJAnyReason
Deebo was being flagrantly flagrantly held on that pass. The refs are a fucking joke.
Anonymous
What a joke. How do you get fooled by the QB draw?
Sarah
Well there’s a lot of time left but honestly I thoiught we were 50-50 at best to win this game. And now that feels stupidly optimistic.
Hope Ben can pull a Brady here.
Anonymous
I hate these announcers.
DJAnyReason
Marvel should’ve held on the sack. God knows it wouldn’t be called.
Anonymous
Big fails by Starks and Gilbert on that sack.
Anonymous
And Ben throws the pick. This game is over.
DJAnyReason
OH FUCK THAT
Anonymous
And Harrison gets flagged for roughing the passer
DJAnyReason
Evidently, touching Tebow is a penalty
Sarah
Well so far we’re underperforming on both sides of the ball about as bad as any time this season.
DJAnyReason
I hate blaming the refs, but in this case I’m having trouble not doing that.
Sarah
Well let’s hope they can avoid ending the season on as humiliating a note as they began. But honestly this is just nauseating.
Anonymous
Every facet of the team is choking hard. Defense gives up another long pass.
Cols714
So much for our #1 defense.
Anonymous
When was the last time the Steelers played this poorly across the board?
Sarah
2004 when they got crushed after winning like 13 straight
Randy Steele
I’m glad I’m an old fart. It’s easier to put your pain in perspective.
Anonymous
I’ll say this. Holding the Broncos to field goals on these last two possessions is huge. Despite everything imploding, it’s still just a 2 score game.
Anonymous
Well, of course. Bad snap on 3rd and 4, killing this drive. Luckily Miller recovered it.
Cols714
OK. This has been awful. WRs dropping balls, Ben not being healthy is killing us.
Also, the defense has been terrible. Giving up huge passes to Tebow is awful. Should make him march down the field.
I’m sure the fans will find a way to blame Gay and Arians, but really it’s been Taylor, Troy, and the rest of the secondary that’s been awful.
Cols714
Randy, you are right. The losses don’t hurt as bad as you age for some reason. However it might be because we’ve been to 3 SBs in the last 6 years. Sort of makes not life or death when you don’t make one, you know you will be right back there.
Cols714
Browns injuring both Ben and Mendenhall are the team that hurt the Steelers the most.
ErikH
Does anyone else here think we should have Batch in there? Ben is probably at about 60% right now and it just isn’t cutting it. Another turnover and we’re done for. I’m not saying Batch would win it. I just think I like are chances a little better in that situation.
http://www.steelerslounge.com/ ryan
By the power of Skippy Reed, I compel thee.
The Steelers couldn’t have played worse with Kent Graham and Lee-Lee Flower on the field. I still think they’re going to win because, well, what else am I going to do.
Steelers 34
Broncos 20
Troy > Tebow
Anonymous
You know what would be nice? A defense that forced turnovers. How about one on Denver’s opening possession of the 2nd half? That would be really nice.
Anonymous
Ike Taylor, defensive holding.
Anonymous
They don’t seem to have any answer for Denver’s offense
Anonymous
Enough with the telegraphed WR screens.
This is probably a fumble and Denver’s ball.
Cols714
Fumble for sure.
Funny, all year fans have called for a quick short passing game, that’s what they are getting.
Cols714
Living in Denver is going to suck this week.
Anonymous
That’s probably the best outcome for the Steelers
Anonymous
Ok guys, gets some points out of this
Anonymous
Looks like Redman is down just short of the endzone.
Anonymous
Just pound it in.
Anonymous
Wallace TD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Didn’t see the end around at the goal line coming
Cols714
Great playcall for the wallace sweep
Cols714
Mendenhall would’ve easily scored on that Redman run. Redman runs so hard though, it’s easy to see why he’s a fan favorite.
Anonymous
And Ike gets flagged again.
Anonymous
A weak call, I might add.
Now Tebow scrambles for a 1st down.
Anonymous
They have no idea how to defend Tebow.
Cols714
Not PI
Taylor was held on last run.
Our Dee stinks,
ErikH
D needs to make a play!
Cols714
Time to panic. We can’t stop Tebow?>??
I’m getting pissed
ErikH
Really… They can stop Brady but not Tebow?
DJAnyReason
How exactly are the refs this bad? Evidently, there is no such penalty as offensive holding.
Cols714
Yep. And that PI call was bad too.
Anonymous
Ok, offense back in business.
Anonymous
Now would be awfully good time for the defense to make a big play.
Anonymous
A hidden factor of this game is the fact that the altitude and subsequent automatic touchbacks have taken Antonio Brown’s return ability out of the game.
I don’t think that Denver is going to win this challenge, but with these refs, who knows…
Anonymous
Ok, offense. The defense finally did its part, now go tie this game up!
Randy Steele
This is four down territory. Play to win. There’s no point holding anything back now.
Randy Steele
JERRICHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Randy Steele
As great as that was, win or lose, I think this is the Steelers’ Super Bowl this year. These guys are just too beat up to play another game and overcome everything that’s against them.
Defense in the process of blowing it. 17 yard completion for Tebow.
Anonymous
This is basically the season right here.
Anonymous
Ok Ben, 1:37, 2 timeouts, ball at the 24
Anonymous
Taking a sack on 1st down doesn’t help
Anonymous
1st down AB!
Anonymous
Great catch by Sanders!
Anonymous
Not thrilled about Suisham’s chances of making a long field goal, even in Denver
Anonymous
That doesn’t help.
Anonymous
60 yarder by Suisham? No chance
Anonymous
Overtime here we come
Sarah
Well. Didn’t think the last game coulud be worst than the first.
But there it is.
Anonymous
Denver wins the toss
Randy Steele
My heart and my liver are too old to survive an overtime game.
Anonymous
Screw you Ike
Randy Steele
Well…
That was embarassing.
Cols714
#1 defense my ass. Great job Lebeau. Way to call man to man when Tebow can’t drive them down the field with short passes all day. This is the time to play zone and make them work it down the field.
Our two biggest losses are because the defense fell in love with man to man press coverage. Funny, because that’s what fans have been calling for for like a decade.
Rob D
Just another lost year and we won 12. Never felt like they were “rolling” at any point during this year. Injuries are a convenient excuse but at some point you just cant’ scotch tape a unit together. The motto this year should have been “Can’t stay healthy. Won’t stay healthy”
I think Lebeau should take a lot of heat for this one. Some of the coverages were hilarious..if you aren’t a Steelers fan that is. Man to man..maybe that’s why we never played it against Brady all those years. He’d have Tebow’d us.
It’s over. And I’m glad we arent’ going to NE next week because I would have had to put my fist through my plasma everytime Nantz tried to insinuate the Steelers just fumbled when they didn’t. Almost as bad as losing is having that donut oversee the event..
Sarah
Same mistake Lebeau made on UniBrow’s game-winning drive. Just zone and keep the ball in front of you. W.T.F???
David
The lack of a pass rush killed us today. That was the story of the game.
Anonymous
That was killer. Some of that’s on them, and some of that’s on the twenty missed offensive holds.
ErikH
How in the world do you let freaking Tim Tebow pick you apart like that. Unbelievable. I don’t care who was injured that was a total embarrassment. The defense should lower their heads in shame for quite some time.
Sarah
Ike Taylor played the worst game of his life probably. AT the end of an excellent season, it should be said.
ErikH
True, but I think your point about Lebeau is right. I wouldn’t say he’s done, but his play calling certainly cost us two big games this season.
Randy Steele
I guess this means that winter has officially begun.
Sarah
More humilating than the first gameof the year.
Never thought I would say this but is it time for Lebeau to go? The 2 biggest losses of the year are completely on the D.
Tim
what a shit team. they deserved that. lebeau is a joke.
Cols714
Shut up. Not a shit team. They were 12-4. Lebeau is a great coach. However, they deserve a ton of heat for this loss. The defense was awful with Lebeau with perhaps his worst game plan ever.
I wouldn’t be unhappy with a changing of the guard at the DC and OC positions. It’s time for some new ideas.
ErikH
How much time is on Lebeau’s contract? He’s going to have to hang it up at some point but I think he’s earned the right to do that on his terms.
I agree though, he made some big mistakes this year. I don’t recall ever questioning his decisions this much.
Sarah
LeBeau is a bit of a sacred cow here in Pgh. I will be interested to see the papers tomorrow and whether there is a lot of heat put on him.
I think if the likes of Kansas City can shut down Tebow, and he embarrasess you – well…your claim to be a Great Defense rings kinda hollow.
I have been wondering for the last year or two if Dick can keep up with in-game stuff….we all get old. No shame there. Dunno. Maybe its time.
David
I don’t think our DC and OC are gone. I just think we need to start getting help where we need it. We’ve gotten away with an average at best O-line for years. IMO, here is my list in order of importance:
OT
OG
CB
ILB
S
K
Cols714
I still don’t think we need another OT. We’ll go in next year with Starks, Colon and Gilbert at OT.
Guard and safety on the other hand….
Cols714
Normally, the day after new years when you go back to work is the most depressing day of the year. However, this year it is going to be tomorrow, Jan. 9th.
Tebowed. Sucks.
The moral? Don’t let the Browns injure two of your best players right before the playoffs.
Also, I think it’s time for some new coordinators. Just for fresh ideas.
Sarah
I think the moral is – if the likes of Tim Tebow can beat you – then you have serious, serious problems, both in personnel and in schemes.
I feel worse now than I felt after the Super Bowl loss last year. We lost to an exceptional QB in Aaron Rodgers last Feb.
Tonight we let an erratic, regressing, 2nd-yr POS light us up. That is infinitely worse.
I really feel sick – and for me, this will take a lot longer to get over than last year’s SB loss.
David
Sarah, I agree. But remember, we beat Elway when we had Mark Malone in the playoffs, so it goes both ways.
But as it stands now, we’re drafting at no lower than 24th. That’s not bad. So something to look forward to in April.
Also, remember, we lost to JAX in a heartbreaker in the 1st round, came back the next year and won it all.
New Eric
Wow, Sarah, I don’t feel anywhere near as badly as I did after the super bowl loss, and really, I can’t remember a time when I felt this much at ease about a playoff loss. I think my main reasoning is that there was just no way this beat up team was going to go on the road to beat N.E, then Baltimore and then a high powered NFC team. Sure, I definitely wanted to win today, not least because I can’t stand Tebow mania. I see your points that we lost to a terrible quarterback, as opposed to a super bowl MVP, but this season hasn’t felt right to me since the week 1 drubbing. Time to regroup. Keep your chin up:)
Cols714
Nope. Not serious problems. The team was 12-4. They played most of the year without at least one and sometimes two of the probow OLB. Their QB wasn’t healthy for the last 4 games. They lost their center for the playoff game and one of their two starting safeties was out.
Not excuses, just facts. This team was a play away from being the #2 seed in the playoffs. They were probably a Cotchery catch from winning the game today.
I really dislike when fans overreact to the losses. This sucks, yes. But it does not indicate serious problems. It just indicates that some more talent and some better schemes are needed. Not a complete overhaul.
The entire offense is going to come back next year and the defense, for all of its lapses today and verses Baltimore, was still the #1 scoring defense in the league while playing without two of their best players for large portions of the season.
Get some more talent on defense. Draft a OG in the first two rounds. Have some better luck with health, and they are right back in it.
So no, not serious problems, just normal problems for a talented team that just didn’t have it this year. At no point this year did I feel like it was our year.
New Eric
I agree on the new coordinators. I just think it’s time to mix it up. Honestly, this year, and even last year, were fairly transitional years for the team, as they tried to add youth. I think they’ve done a good job of building a foundation to give Ben a few more shots at a title. I’m actually fairly at ease with this loss. I just didn’t have any confidence in going to N.E. to win, despite our victory over them earlier in the year. Don’t get me wrong–I didn’t enjoy seeing our D get shredded like swiss cheese by the nausea-inducing Tebowmaniac, but I’m not nearly as worked up as I am after a playoff exit. Hopefully next year we can stay healthy also.
David
Cols, I agree to a point. But…Ben was injured and we lost a ton of players on D.
Shoulda, woulda, coulda, but, as we harped on all year, if healthy, we’re one of the best.
Let’s fill some holes, get healthy, and hope someone beats the Raisins.
Cols714
Yeah. If Ben wasn’t injured I think they win this game.
Cols714
So, who do we root for now?
I’m rooting for Denver to beat the Pats and then Houston to beat the nasty Ravens. If the nightmare plays out (and it will), do we root for the Pats or the Ravens?
I dislike both teams
ErikH
I want Denver to lose. Tebow has no business winning like he just did. The joke is on the Steelers, but I’m officially a Tebow hater now. ;)
Anonymous
Ravens no question. I only don’t like the Ravens when they play the Steelers. The rest of the time I like them because they play the game the way I like to see it played. Additionally, I prefer to see the AFCN representation continue. Last but not least I really hate the Patriots for flagrantly cheating and basically giving us three seasons with no NFL champion and then then getting essentially no punishment for it.
Therealdje
Where do I begin?? This game should have been over way before the 4th quarter ended. Can we say “missed/blown calls?” 2 on one play and a HUGE one on another. Dropped passes stalling drives. Not taking advantage of opportinities when they are handed to you. It was just as I thought it might have been……………………………………………………………………………………..but then in the end we pulled it off!!!! GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!
Anonymous
I dunno about that. You’re right there were a lot of blown calls, but even if they had all been made the Broncos would still have been in it in the 4th quarter just not in the lead. Not taking advantage of opportunities was big. Having no pass rush and letting receivers get deep was also very big.
Therealdje
But seriously, it was a great game to watch. The call I was referring to are the facemask calls on Tebow (but we see this almost weekly with him not getting the call) and the “early whistle” on the lateral pass. Great game and it’s nice to see some revenge for ’05!!
http://seowebservice.de/ lisamargaret13
Ya, I heard about this, But still have bit confusion about it. Looking forward to know about it moral story. Thank you.
