Who owns a Limas Sweed jersey? This guy in the Johnny Manziel picture

Heisman Trophy winner Johnn Manziel has been all over the news the past few weeks because he’s a prominent college football player acting like your run-of-the-mill college student. Scandalous stuff, and I could not possibly care less about any of it.

What I DO care about is this recent picture of Manziel, the quarterback at Texas A & M, showing up at a University of Texas frat party in a Tim Tebow jersey.

Why do I care about this picture?

Because of the guy in the Limas Sweed Steelers jersey that photo bombs the entire picture.

Unless this party had a “wear the jersey of the worst NFL player you can think of” theme, I have no idea why two people would be wearing Tebow and Sweed jerseys in the same place at the same time.

Football!

I need to get out my #7 jersey. Go Gonzalez!

Where IS my Scott Shields jersey? Damn.. Scott? You broke my heart. Weasel.

But Limas Sweed really hurt too..whenever you think you got “a legit steal” in the draft and the guy turns out to be a total non factor..it hurts a little bit more. NO..a LOT more.. And if I payed full price for a legit jersey of the guy, I’d be wearing it too. Cause I’m stubborn like that. Wouldn’t it be fun to defend that decision to wear until the jersey gave up the ghost? lol….

Texans release NT Sunny Harris. Harris showed some potential last year in preseason before injury but looked out of shape at OTAs this year

Remember when he was the favoured son? It’s fun to get excited about overlooked players but most of them are overlooked for a reason.

I just bought this subscription. Does that make me a sick man?

    • Rob D

It does..and I am SO proud of you. NOw if only it was available in Canada and I had some way of hiding the Visa bill from the wife. That should be an app, actually!

      • Eric

Well there is software that will mask your IP address. That would let you fool the servers into thinking you were in the USA.

I don’t know of any software for your wife though!

        • Rob D

          DAng it, Eric…think!!

          :)

After a 10-year hiatus from getting Sunday Ticket directly, we’re moving to a house where we can get it again. Hallelujah! But I just found out that it doesn’t include the preseason… aargh. Oh, well, we’re going to the first preseason game in person, another is on ESPN. I guess we’ll have to do the Slingbox workaround for the other two.

          • countertorque

NFL Network shows all of the preseason games. And if you have Sunday Ticket, you must have NFLN. They don’t show them live. But I don’t think that’s a problem, since no one watches preseason games to find out who won.

          • EasyLikeSundayMorning

Cool, thanks. I didn’t know that as I haven’t had NFLN before.

Here’s a question of the day:

If you were going to buy a Steelers’ jersey that you wanted to wear confidently for the next five years, which player’s jersey would you choose? (Rothlisberger doesn’t count.)

    • Eric

      Probably the safest non-QB picks?

      1. Pouncey
      2. Timmons
      3. DeCastro
      4. A. Brown

      • countertorque

        Not Woodley?

        • Eric

Considered it but he has a nagging history of lower leg issues and his contract will expire before 5 years. If he continues to have injury issues, will the Steelers sign him to a third contract when he is 33?

(I put too much thought into this Randy’s question)

          • Randy Steele

I agree with you, Eric. I wouldn’t put Woodley on the list either.

    • Rob D

I have a Pouncey jersey mostly because of the proud history we have for centers. I think he’s going to be around for a while.

But if I was going to buy another it would probably be Jarvis Jones.First/Second round.LB’ers tend to stick around through their Lebeau monitored start, then see spot duty and eventually get to start..that should take five years easy! I still don’t know if Worilds is any good and he’s been around forever..lol

I wouldn’t bet on any RB, WR not named Hines, Dline or secondary players..they could all be changed out after one draft..we have good but not “special good” players for the most part. AT least until they prove otherwise.

One guy I think has a shot to play a long time for us, if I went out on a limb..would be Golden. Versatile and smart..just looks the part.

    • EasyLikeSundayMorning

By confidently, do you mean that the guy will be on the team and playing well over the next five years? Or do you mean confidence that you’ll be proud to wear the jersey on 5 years? The guys already mentioned are the leading candidates for the former. For the latter, there are a lot of current and former HOFs to choose from. And if you have a different type of confidence and want to stick it to guys like the homophobic yinzer sitting next to us a few years ago, you could get a Willie Gay jersey.

My younger brother is a Rangers hockey fan and he twice bought expensive jerseys only two have both players traded pretty much immediately afterward. He vows never to buy one again, if only to avoid driving away players he likes.

      Polamalu, Keisel

  • EasyLikeSundayMorning

Maybe both guys are wearing the jerseys as a joke. A friend and I used to call each other at work and give each others’ secretaries the most obscure and odd-sounding sports names we could think of. Having them say things like, “There’s a Mr. John Wockenfuss on the line for you” was worth it. It could be something like that.

These items from Dale Lolley today about Wednesday’s practice:

“It probably won’t surprise too many, but Mike Adams ate Ziggy Hood’s lunch in one-on-ones today.

“Cam Heyward looks highly motivated this season, and it won’t be a surprise to see him supplant Hood in the starting lineup.

“On the other side of the line, Marcus Gilbert is a concern. It seems to take him a play or two in individual drills before he gets going. Doing that in a game will be an opening drive killer.”

    • Rob D

Ziggy…consistently disappointing. Works hard, doesn’t command the double team. A lot of people said he wasn’t a natural fit in a 3-4 and I think that’s proving correct. Heyward ? I thought he’d be pushing out Keisel, not Hood. Anyway, if Heyward turns into a difference maker, we’ll be in fairly good shape.

Gilbert is the guy who should have every single STeeler fan biting his nails. I don’t think he’s a LT and I don’t believe he’ll be playing that position at the end of the year even if he starts the year there.

      • Canadian Steeler

I’m nervous about Gilbert too, but it’s great to see Adams still has his strength after the stabbing. Even before we drafted him, it was easy to see the Max Starks impression, and I could see a similar career progression. It took Starks a while for the light to go on and gain consistency.

    • Eric

For what it’s worth, Wexell is high on Gilbert:

@StevenTanner1 Gilbert will win it and exceed my poor prediction when they drafted him.— James C Wexell (@jimwexell) August 1, 2013

@LanceZierlein Mike Adams looking really good. I'd like more girth from DeCastro but gets downfield great. Gilbert better LT than I expected— James C Wexell (@jimwexell) August 1, 2013
